~A Short Story Behind the Featured Painting~

“After The Rain”

Devon, England

 

It was a stormy drive from Lancashire heading for Cornwall on our special holiday, when we decided to take the scenic drive through Devon. Almost on cue the clouds separated and the brilliant blue sky spilled on an ancient cottage; ancient at least to my way of thinking. Michael found his way to the side of the road as I yelled – “pull over, pull over!”

Down the drive walked a small lady wrapped in her yellow slicker and I greeted her with, “your cottage is beautiful !”  She returned the greeting with a huge smile and wave. After our brief encounter, she verified that the cottage was built in the late 1600’s. With camera in hand, I asked if I  could shoot and then paint her Cottage and Garden and she said, “yes of course, only let me hide behind the Rose Hedge”.  If you look closely, you will see the delphinium reflections in the rain puddle; hence it’s title – “After the Rain.”
