My finger-painting, The Sunflower, was a class study to bring some fun into a prior week of heavy technical repetition. I displayed a vase of draping, stretching sunflowers in the center of a table, and handed out to my students a single plastic glove for one hand. The only instruction was to paint with your fingers any part of what you see. Some painted the entire arrangement, some followed me by choosing one flower. The next three hours were full of laughter and intent. Most reserved one finger for mixing their paint colors, but all were surprised at how a wrinkle in the glove could give defining hard edges to the composition. The point is that the stress relief opened new loose edges in their paintings, and created an atmosphere of joy and fun. The journey of creating a beautiful painting should be the same as life’s journey creating a fun, relaxed, and exciting experience.
Enjoy your journey! Cheers,
